My work is described as an amalgamation of opulence, beauty, and a vintage treasure-trove. Each piece I make is inspired by the vintage materials and haberdashery I use, often I find a whole piece can be based upon a collection of lace and buttons, or a worn scrap of fabric.
As a textile artist I am concerned with the concept of mend and make do, this principle interests me greatly and has always been a theme running through my work and my home life. I learnt from an early age to collect together interesting notions and be creative with them. I love the idea of a patchwork quilt made from old clothes and interesting scraps of fabric, each one with its own story. I like to see each of my pieces as a patchwork, where each element that I use has its own piece of history. It is this link to the past which links all of my pieces and what inspires and motivates me.
